Lucid's Looking Back... And Issuing Another Recall for Rearview Cameras!

TL;DR: Lucid is facing another software-related recall for its rearview camera system, affecting over 14,000 Air sedans and Gravity SUVs. This marks the second such recall in recent months, pointing to ongoing software challenges.

Meta: Lucid issues a second software-related recall for rearview cameras in its Air sedans and Gravity SUVs.

Well, well, well, looks like Lucid's got a case of déjà vu, baby! For the second time in as many months, they're recalling vehicles for rearview camera software issues. This time, it's affecting a combined total of over 14,000 Air sedans and their new Gravity electric SUVs. Now, I love a luxury ride as much as the next guy, but when you can't see what's behind you, that's not luxury, that's a liability! It seems like those fancy Lucid rides are having a little trouble keeping their eyes in the back of their head, if you catch my drift.

Gravity's Glitch and Air's Ailment

Let's break it down: first up, we got about 3,900 model year 2025–2026 Lucid Gravity SUVs. The problem? The rearview image might not show up at all, or you get a warning that the camera's unavailable. Lucid says it's a software hiccup related to how the vehicle handles power states and camera signals. They spotted this back in late 2025, issued a stop-sale, and pushed an over-the-air (OTA) fix with software version 3.3.20. Most Gravity owners already got the update, but hey, gotta make sure everyone's in the clear.

Then we got 10,816 Lucid Air sedans (model years 2022–2026) in the mix. For these beauties, the rearview image might be blank or show an error message. The culprit here is apparently an increased compute load when the car wakes up from sleep, which can prevent the Autonomous Control Unit from delivering a full-frame image. Lucid again issued a stop-sale and released software version 2.8.17 via OTA to smooth things out. Over 9,000 Air vehicles are already updated, but those owner notification letters are still making their way out. These recalls just highlight that even the most luxurious EVs can stumble when it comes to software.

The Software Shuffle

Now, as I mentioned, this ain't Lucid's first rodeo with rearview camera woes. They had another recall for similar issues back in August 2025. It's like they can't quite get that digital eye to focus properly. While the root causes might be different each time, the repeated campaigns certainly put a spotlight on the challenges Lucid's software team is facing. In fact, word on the street is that their software team recently got a complete overhaul, trying to iron out those bugs that have been buggin' owners since the Gravity's launch. It just goes to show you, building a premium EV is more than just sleek design and powerful motors; that software's gotta be tight, too.

These OTA recalls are a blessing and a curse. It's great that fixes can be pushed wirelessly, saving folks a trip to the service center. But the frequency of these issues for a high-end brand like Lucid? That's definitely something to keep an eye on. You expect your luxury vehicle to be as flawless as a Marvin Gaye record, not acting like a scratched CD.

What's Next

For affected Lucid owners, if you haven't received or installed the software updates, keep an eye out for those notification letters. Dealers will also perform the necessary checks and updates if your vehicle hasn't been updated wirelessly. Lucid's gotta keep working on their software game to ensure these kinds of issues become a distant memory. Because in the EV world, a smooth ride isn't just about the suspension; it's about the pixels on your screen, too.

Here's hopin' they get it together, 'cause ain't nobody wants a blind spot they can't see, baby! ```
