Well, well, well, look what the cat dragged in! Toyota's stepping up its EV game in Europe with the brand-new Urban Cruiser EV. They're calling it an "authentic SUV" in both design and performance, and it's their second fully electric SUV, following the refreshed bZ4X. So, for all you city dwellers looking to go electric without breaking the bank, this might just be your ride, starting from a cool €31,990 (about $37,500) in Germany.

Power and Practicality

This ain't just a pretty face. The Urban Cruiser rolls on a new dedicated EV platform and offers a choice of two Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery packs: a 49 kWh or a 61 kWh. If you go for the smaller battery, you get a 142 hp front-wheel-drive (FWD) motor with a decent 344 km (214 miles) of WLTP range. But if you're feeling adventurous, the larger 61 kWh pack comes with FWD or all-wheel drive (AWD) options, pushing the range up to 426 km (265 miles) and 395 km (245 miles) respectively. The AWD version delivers a combined 181 hp, perfect for navigating those tricky urban jungles or even some light off-roading.

And for those who like to tow, the Urban Cruiser can handle up to 750 kg (1,650 lbs) of braked loads. Plus, it charges from 10% to 80% in about 45 minutes with DC fast charging. They even threw in a heat pump and battery preconditioning as standard to keep things efficient. That's thinking, baby!

Spacious Interior, Smart Tech

Inside, thanks to that dedicated EV platform, the Urban Cruiser feels open and spacious. Those sliding and split-folding rear seats mean you get cargo capabilities rivaling larger SUVs, making it perfect for hauling groceries, luggage, or even your pet llama (don't ask me how I know). The infotainment system is slick too, with a 10.25-inch driver display and a 10.1-inch multimedia touchscreen that plays nice with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety? It's got you covered with standard features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition.

While this bad boy is hitting European showrooms, don't hold your breath for a US launch. But don't despair! Toyota's got the new 2026 Toyota bZ (starting under $35,000) and the upcoming C-HR to keep American EV fans happy. It seems Toyota's finally getting serious about giving the people what they want: affordable, practical EVs.
